Qualifications

AGE
Be no younger than 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
EDUCATION
1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and:
- One year of full-time satisfactory experience performing clerical, word processing or data entry duties; or
- One year of full-time satisfactory experience in public contact work requiring the obtaining and recording of information from persons; or
- Completion of 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university; or
- Two years of active military duty; or
However, all candidates must possess a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent.
In addition to the Exam, a computerized typing performance test is required to meet the skill requirement of keyboard familiarity by demonstrating the ability to type accurately on a personal computer at a minimum speed of 25 words per minute after errors are deducted.RESIDENCY
Residency within the 5 boroughs is required within 90 days of appointment.
INVESTIGATION
After an interview, if you are selected, you must pass a background investigation, which will require a $75 money order for the fingerprinting fee. The investigation can take up to 6 weeks.
CITIZENSHIP
Under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, you must be able to prove your identity and your
right to obtain employment in the United States prior to employment with an agency under the jurisdiction of
the Commissioner, Department of Citywide Administrative Services.
PROBATION PERIOD
This title has one year probationary period to become permanent in the title. You are evaluated on the 4th and 10th month of your first year.
WORK HOURS AND LOCATION
The NYPD operates 24/7. Your assigned location, work hours and days off will be determined based on the needs of the Department. Must be comfortable working with uniform personnel who carry firearms.
TRAINING
Police Administrative Aides must complete a 8-week training program at the Police Academy in College Point, Queens before starting at their assigned commands.
